My Motivation

My motivation is simple and clear: to support Safe and Sincere Worship.

I believe you are most safe when you know what you are buying, and who you are buying it from. Hence, this site. Worship gets a little more personal. Read my story below, and visit the Creed Builder on the site; I highly recommend taking the time to define what Worship means to you!

Worship: What does it mean to you?

To me, Worship is an activity or effort you make to Connect with Source. At various times that looks like: quiet and personal time reflecting; sitting with friends around a campfire; exploring group consciousness at a rave. Anytime I connect to myself and source, I'm worshipping.

Get to know me a little!

I want you to know who you are dealing with. I am Steve Urquhart. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, with Sara, my wife of 36 years. We are active in our community and serve on a number of non-profit boards. I am a lawyer, I taught public health at the University of Utah Medical School, and I served in the Utah Legislature for 16 years (8 years in the House and 8 years in the Senate).

I worship with psychedelic mushrooms. I do not hide my religion. It has connected me with the Divine and improved my life. I love my religion.

I promote understanding of psychedelic worship, by helping government officials and law enforcement understand that America’s laws recognize safe and sincere worship with psychedelic sacraments. I promote safety for individual worshippers in two ways:

First, I have taught over 5,000 people to grow their sacrament independently. No third party, no contaminants, no adulterants, no false claims, no mislabeling. By growing their own sacrament, worshippers establish a meaningful connection.

Second, I provide small amounts of sacrament to individuals who cannot grow their own.

I dislike the dangers people face in accessing this ancient sacrament. They do not know what they are getting or who they are getting it from. Purity is suspect at best. Red flags are everywhere. This is unacceptable for a legal form of worship, and I do not accept it.

Before Sara and I discovered psychedelic worship, we felt lost. We had lost our faith in legacy religion, and we were spiritually adrift. Through psychedelic worship, we discovered something new and wonderful. We connected with something ancient and divine inside of us, and we connected with each other. Psychedelic worship turned our lives around.

To help others connect (with themselves, others, and the Divine), we started The Divine Assembly (TDA). TDA has a single tenet: Each individual can commune with the Divine and receive guidance. This mystic tradition encourages individuals to establish their own relationship with the Divine, and to construct the specific contours of their unique belief system and personal pilgrimage. This has proven to be integral, in an age when isolation plagues us and many people have left the important third-spaces that religious communities can form.

Personally, I have found a sense of peace and connection that I could not have imagined before. I think it is heaven, but that’s a story for another time. Having known hell in my heart and head, nothing will stop me from sharing this good news. I love worship. I love that I get to worship in this way. And I love that I can help others worship safely.

I will preach for one paragraph: Legacy religions do not keep people safe. In legacy religion, the predators often are the people who were appointed to protect us. With sacraments that promote a state of suggestibility and vulnerability, the world of psychedelic worship can also be dangerous. I believe that truly safe religious worship keeps people out of harm’s way by encouraging them to freely choose how, and with whom, they will worship. People are safer worshipping in small groups with trusted friends who want nothing from them other than their personal wellbeing. Like the evangelical house church movement where families and small groups bypass traditional buildings, formal clergy, and rigid programs, I encourage people to seek safety in the safest people they know and trust. Please take care of yourself and the people around you.

It does not matter to me whether you join TDA or my ministry organization, Church of the Authentic Soul. They are tiny parts of a religion that is ancient and vast. If something resonates, take it. If not, leave it. You get to be in charge of you. My ministry is to help people increase safety in their sincere worship. I am blessed to do this. I want to keep it clean and within the safe harbor of religious use.
